トラベラーズチェックは今すぐ換金すべし！？ Hurry up to exchange your Travelers Checks!

１５年前くらいに作ったトラベラーズチェック。
当時円建てで２万円とアメリカドル建てで２００USD作りました。
結局なかなか使う機会が無く、
ネットニュースで２０１４年位に新規の発行は終了、しかし手持ちの分はそのまま使えます！
と見て安心してました。
This photo is "Travelers Check" which I got around 15years ago.
I got 20,000JPY and 200USD checks at that time.
I haven't had opportunities for exchanging these since then.
And I got to know that travelers check was no longer selling new one, but it's valid of issued one.
I've had these checks as that were.


アメリカドル建ての分は、2015年末にメキシコに行く時に立ち寄った、
シカゴのホテル（Hyatt Centric Chicago The Loop）でなんとそのままの額面で（手数料無しで）交換できたので、
この分だとしばらくは大丈夫、と思っていたのですが、
円建ての分をそろそろ使わないと・・・と
先日同じように東京の外資系のホテルなどで使えるか、先日何軒か電話で聞いてみると・・・・
なんと！どこも使えません！！！
USD checks were already exchanged when I visited Chicago, on the way of Mexico, 2015 December.
At the hotel, Hyatt Centric Chicago The Loop, they gave me the same sum, no commission!
Then I took it easy to exchange JPY checks are also acceptable for the time being.
The time passed, the other day I called some international chain hotels in Tokyo and asked that they accept my JPY checks...
Oh my god! They are already finished to accept!


これはいかん！紙切れになる前に現金にしなければ！と
持っていたのがAMEX発行のトラベラーズチェックだったので、
AMEXのホームページで調べましたら、Travelexの両替所で交換してもらえそう、
と行ってきました。

This is too bad! I hurry up to exchange these checks before these will be only a paper!
I checked AMEX webpage (AMEX issued my check) and I got an information that Amex Travelers check can be exchanged at Travelex.
I HURRIED UP to Travelex.

身分証明書の確認と、トラベラーズチェックの盗難確認など、
１０分弱の時間と、１％の手数料（うーーん、昔はかからなかったはず・・・）がかかったものの、
なんとか無事日本円に換金できました。
I finally got Japanese Yen exchange after 10minutes, checking ID, AMEX (about stolen or not), etc., with 1% commission (I guess it doesn't apply before...)

去年５月２日までは、外貨を取り扱っている郵便局でも取り扱いできたようですが、
すでにそれも終了した様子。

It's also already finished at the Japanese Post Office on 2nd May, 2016.

Travelexでも、AMEX以外の発行のトラベラーズチェックは一部換金不可のものも有るようですので、
もしお手元にトラベラーズチェックが残っておられたら、
可及的速やかに換金された方がよいと思います。
私の場合は日本円建てだったのと、旅行先で換金場所を探したり出向いたりする時間がもったいない、
と日本円に戻してしまいましたが、
もし旅行先で換金できるようであれば、その方がお得ですね。
Travelex doesn't take traveler's check issued other brand (some kinds of VISA, Master and more).
If you still have your traveler's check, I recommend to exchange cash as soon as possible.
I exchanged to JPY cash because I don't spend my time for looking for and visiting the place at the foreign country, But if you have a time, It's better to exchange to foreign currency cash.
